Malaysian Label Abandons Plans To Release RIBSPREADER Collection
February 12, 2006Contrary to previously published reports, Malaysia's Summers End Records (via sub-label Unburied Records) will NOT be issuing the "Church of the Zombie (Re-Excavated Death)" album from RIBSPREADER, the Swedish "old-school death metal" band featuring guitarist/vocalist/bassist Rogga Johansson (PAGANIZER, CARVE, HUMANITY DELETE). "Reason being [that] the present black metal issues surrounding metal fans in Malaysia have made it unfeasible and very very difficult, if not impossible, to put out this release without it being banned or worse, confiscated and destroyed," reads an official statement from Summers End. "The label wish to apologize to the band (for your belief in the label — thank you very much) and fans who are looking forward to this release. Any other label wishing to undertake this release, please contact the band directly or you may go through us. All rights are held by RIBSPREADER. Thanks and we wish the band all the best in their upcoming album."
"Church of the Zombie (Re-Excavated Death)" was previously said to include "a bunch of completely unreleased songs we did a while back," according to Johansson. "These songs are not the usual type RIBSPREADER stuff however. We took a bunch of old unused riffs, as well as some newer ones, and downtuned the guitars to a low G or something. Point is that the shit sounds almost as sick as it was to play (we didn't really bother to get much thicker strings as we are poor/lazy/stupid...). We also produced the shit in our own studio to make it sound not very good. So expect something sounding like a bunch of retards playing ultra-low covers of the simpler IMPETIGO and CARNAGE songs. It actually sounds quite cool, and the cover art done by Polish artist Klaudiusz Witzcak is a nice mix of coolness and total absurdity, which should go nice with the music."
RIBSPREADER recently signed a one-album deal with the reactivated Dutch label VIC Records. The group's new CD, "Serenity in Obscenity", is ready to be released and features "killer" artwork/layout by Juan Castellano, who has previously worked with VOMITORY and INCANTATION, among others. There will be 10 songs on the album, which was mixed and mastered by producer Dan Swanö. A split seven-inch single Spanish grind/crust masters MACHETAZO will also follow later in the year.
